Aubrey Allen is no ordinary 9-year-old. Sure, she loves lemonade stands and playing with friends, but her true passion lies in the heart of her garden. With a green thumb inherited from her great-grandfather, Aubrey spends countless hours nurturing a vibrant world of plants. This little eco-warrior isn't just growing flowers for fun. Aubrey views gardening as a means to conserve the environment, one seed at a time. Whether it's her award-winning aloe, towering corn stalks, or cheerful impatiens, every plant plays a role in her mission.

But Aubrey's talents extend beyond the garden. This young entrepreneur is also the mastermind behind a thriving lemonade stand, whipping up delicious treats with real lemons and other goodies.

Two years ago, Aubrey's life took another exciting turn when she met Ayenza Matthews, Heal The Planet’s Wellness Director. Ayenza, a champion athlete herself, has taken Aubrey under her wing, teaching her the ropes of track and field.  The high jump is Aubrey's favorite event, but she's also mastering shot put, turbo javelin, and sprints. With Ayenza's guidance, Aubrey is training to be a well-rounded athlete. 

While Aubrey dreams of Olympic glory on the track, she also has a future in medicine in her sights, aiming to become a cardiologist. This well-rounded young lady is clearly on a mission to make a difference, both on the field and off. Animals and nature hold a special place in Aubrey's heart, and she plans to use her garden to give back to the community. Aubrey shows us that anyone, no matter their age, can be a true eco-warrior and Heal The Planet. 

The sun was shining, the energy was high, and the spirit of sustainability filled the air! On Sunday, April 21st, we celebrated our 9th Annual Heal The Planet Day in Esplanade Park, and it wouldn't have been possible without the incredible support of our amazing community.

Flashback to where it all started at seven years old when I said to my mom: "I want to go to the Olympics games, run, and win a medal." Though doubt echoed in her eyes, her heart held the unwavering belief in her tiny dreamer. Two years later, the flame flickered brighter. Speaking again with my mother, she was even more moved by my unwavering passion and embarked on a tireless search. Yet, disappointment followed disappointment. "Too young," they'd say. 

But December of 2023 marked a turning point. At 11 years old, I ran my first mile at school and won. The next day, I competed against a different group and won again - improving my time by over two minutes. Two victories, two seeds sown, blossoming into an insatiable passion.

Then, the answer to our prayers. After numerous calls, my mom connected with Ayenza Matthews, a name forever etched in my heart, who heard my story, saw the fire, and in just two hours, transformed my world.

From that day on, the rhythm of running became my heartbeat. Now, I train daily, participate in competitions, and am a member of the USATF Florida Association. My story has become a beacon, inspiring not only myself, but also those around me. 

My father, captivated by my journey, laced up his shoes and started running. My twin sister, an artist in her own right, started exploring music and art. The ripple effect spread further, touching friends and family  - and igniting a collective passion for movement. Getting on the track and running is my dream come true. I never set out to inspire others, but seeing their fire ignite brings me so much joy.

While my running journey is still young, I understand the importance of a healthy mind and spirit. Injuries can be more than physical; a wounded mind or spirit can hinder an athlete as much as a broken bone. Therefore, I care for my mind and spirit by maintaining my hobbies, friendships, and other recreational activities. I nurture my spirit by finding solace in prayer before each competition, a reminder of the strength that lies within my heart.

My gratitude overflows for the unwavering support of my family, friends, Ayenza, Coach Elliott Mason of RunAdic Club, and every cheering soul at competitions.

Yet, the ultimate goal – representing the USA, clad in the national colors, racing across the Olympic track – burns bright. This is just the beginning, the first few lines of my story. Many miles and tracks lie ahead, and I, Fabiana, am ready to conquer them all, fueled by the fire that ignited at seven and continues to burn ever stronger.

In a bustling city brimming with hurried footsteps and relentless progress, there lived a passionate woman named Lola. She embodied an innate curiosity and a profound love for the world around her. Lola reveled in the awe-inspiring beauty of nature, the delicate balance of ecosystems, sustainability, and the invaluable treasures offered by Mother Earth. Yet, as she observed the persistent pursuit of convenience and daily consumption, she grew increasingly concerned for the future of our planet and its natural resources. 

One fateful day, Lola stumbled upon an old, weathered book in a dusty bookstore. Its pages whispered tales of sustainability and eco-friendly worlds, guiding her on an unexplored path. She discovered that the choices she made as a consumer held extraordinary power and that she could contribute to preserving the beauty of the planet she cherished.

With newfound determination, Lola embarked on a journey to seek out sustainable products—those thoughtfully crafted with a deep respect for nature and a steadfast commitment to avoiding the depletion of precious natural resources. She yearned for products that not only harmonized with the natural world but also actively contributed to its restoration, and a way to define sustainability for good.

Lola’s first steps led her to a vibrant local market where farmers proudly displayed their organically grown, pesticide-free produce. She marveled at the vivid array of colors and basked in the intoxicating aroma of ripe fruits and vegetables. As she filled her basket, she realized that by supporting local farmers who embraced sustainable farming practices, she could help safeguard soil health, promote biodiversity, reduce the ecological impact of conventional agriculture, and at the same time, redefine climate change.

Next, Lola turned her attention to the textiles she adorned her body with. She sought out artisans who skillfully wove fabrics from sustainably sourced fibers, such as organic cotton and bamboo. Their creations cocooned her in a gentle embrace, free from the toxic chemicals and environmental harm associated with conventional fast fashion manufacturing. Lola cherished each garment as a testament to responsible fashion, supporting fair trade practices, and ensuring the well-being of both people and the planet. She knew sustainability in fashion was the best course she could adopt as part of her commitment to her new self-sustainable lifestyle.

Embracing the spirit of sustainability, Lola delved further into her choices for everyday household items. She discovered a world of products crafted from renewable materials—bamboo toothbrushes, biodegradable cleaning solutions, eco-friendly products, and paper products made from recycled fibers and bamboo. With each mindful purchase, she reduced her contribution to the mounting piles of waste and landfill pollution. In her vision, a circular economy thrived, where resources were conserved, and every product had the opportunity for a second life.

Lola’s journey extended beyond the act of purchasing sustainable products. Inspired by her new passion, Lola opened a shop in the bustling city she called home. The Shop curated an assortment of natural, and zero-waste products and plants. At the Shop, numerous sustainable brands contribute to other businesses and non-profit organizations, cultivating a mutually beneficial relationship.

Lola presents the community with a Shop that overflows with a delightful assortment of eco-friendly gifts, sustainable and free of chemical goods, and stunning plants. In Lola’s life, plants play an integral role, serving as a cherished expression of her love and devotion to nature.

Within her shop, Lola witnessed how each purchase had the power to protect ecosystems, conserve resources, and build a future where the wonders of nature could thrive harmoniously with human progress and sustainable development. The fall season has arrived, leaves are starting to turn beautiful hues of copper, and pumpkins are popping up in all of the stores. Soon, pumpkins will be spotted on doorsteps, used as festive centerpieces, and carved into creative jack-o-lanterns. But what happens to those pumpkins when the festivities have subsided? 

As we enter the season of Everything Pumpkin, we want to bring awareness to the use and disposal of pumpkins to create mindful consumption and protect our planet. Did you know last year over one billion pumpkins were grown in the U.S. alone? Or that 80% of those were grown for decorative purposes only? That means most pumpkins ended up rotting in landfills, generating toxic methane and other harmful greenhouse gas emissions. Most people aren’t even aware of this fact. But, we can prevent this! Just because the season ends, doesn’t mean your pumpkin needs to end up in the trash bin. There are numerous ways to repurpose and dispose of your pumpkin in a more environmentally friendly way.

Another option is to consider not buying pumpkins and forgo this tradition, to reduce these harmful greenhouse gases from ending up in the environment. From food to facials, let’s explore some creative ways to repurpose your holiday pumpkins.

Eat It!

It’s always easiest to start with food. Eating seems like the most logical thing to do with your excess pumpkins, but sometimes, the pumpkins we purchase for decorative purposes aren’t the tastiest. The Howden pumpkin, which is the most common pumpkin grown for Halloween, was hybridized for looks and not flavor. But, that doesn’t mean its inedible. Roasting the seeds and using the flesh for purees that go into baking, such as pumpkin bread, are great alternatives. Just be mindful, if the pumpkin has been used as a jack-o-lantern, make sure you cut away any areas that have been exposed candle wax. If the pumpkin has begun decomposing do not eat it, we have safer alternatives below.

Compost It!

The best alternative for pumpkins that were used as jack-o-lanterns is to compost them. Pumpkins are organic waste, which means they are a great source of nutrients for the soil. If you don’t have a composting pile but have a backyard, you can easily chop it up and bury it. Be mindful to remove the seeds unless you are looking to grow your own pumpkin patch next spring. Don’t feel inspired to take on the tasks above? Consider donating it to a local farmer to use as feed for their livestock. Just remember, keep it as far away from your house as possible, so you don’t have unwanted guests roaming around. 

Drop It Off!

Many communities have pumpkin recycling programs popping up to prevent them from ending up in landfills. Check with your local recycling facility or community council to see where you can drop off your unused pumpkins. Also, placing your pumpkins in your green waste bin is an option as long as it hasn’t been painted. 

As the holiday season ramps up and then comes to a close, be mindful of your consumption and consider how your actions directly impact the health of our planet. There are numerous ways to celebrate. Utilize your power of choice, enjoy your holiday pumpkins and give thanks to the amazing farmers that grow them, and honor our planet by disposing of your holiday pumpkins responsibly.

With the election season complete, it is time to remove the political signs from our homes and businesses. Of course, some people went one step further than this. Some homeowners have been using wooden flagpoles to show their support to their favorite presidential candidate. Luckily, those people could just change the flag that they have on the flagpole for something like an American flag. Unfortunately, signs are slightly more difficult to dispose of. That being said, what do we do with them? Place them in the trash, recycle them, or upcycle them into a sturdy storage box? There are actually numerous things you can do with political signs that are much better for the environment than simply throwing them in the trash.

Here are few alternatives to upcycling and/or recycling your signage.

1) Contact A Local Beekeeper.
Political signs, surprisingly, are excellent for protecting beehives from insects and other pests. Many beekeepers can save money by upcycling political signs instead of buying cardboard at the hardware store. Not all beekeepers use them, have the ability or need to accept signs, but it is a great way to connect with your local farming & beekeeping community while protecting the planet.

2) Upcycle It.
In the market for some new small space storage bins? Or, interested in channeling your inner
artist by creating a custom sign for an upcoming special event? Check out this DIY Sign Storage Box tutorial. Consider researching Pinterest for hundreds of other ways you can upcycle your signs.

3) Check With Your Local Recycling Facility.
It is possible that your local recycling facility accepts these signs, but it is critical to check before possibly contaminating your recycling. Most political signs today are made from corrugated cardboard, unfortunately, it is coated in plastic, preventing it from being recycled. Some waste management facilities have the resources to break them down properly. One way you can ensure it is recyclable for future elections is to stick to cardboard only. Cardboard signs are more gentle on our planet so next time ask the campaigns you support to consider cardboard. The planet and its finite resources don’t care which side of the aisle you vote for however, our planet does care that we honor and protect her and all of its inhabitants. Making informed and mindful decisions in your everyday life are the best ways we can ensure a healthy and abundant planet for future generations.

Bioplastics are being touted as the solution to the planet’s growing plastic pollution problem. With companies like Pepsi, Nestle, Coca-Cola, and other big-name beverage corporations shifting their plastic packaging to bioplastics aka “plant plastics,” we wanted to learn more about how bioplastics are created and uncover if they are actually better for the planet.

Bioplastics have been around since the mid-1800s when inventor Alexander Parkes created a plastic polymer out of chloroform and castor oil. Since then, numerous types of bioplastics have been created out of a variety of plant and animal matter. Bioplastics are defined as a type of biodegradable plastic derived from biological substances. Traditional plastics are made from petroleum-based raw materials. Bioplastics are currently used in numerous products like packaging, containers, bottles, bags, and straws.

There are two main types of bioplastics, PLA (polylactic acid) and PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate). PLA is made from sugars sourced from sugarcane, corn, or cassava biowaste. It is biodegradable, carbon-neutral, and edible. PHA is made by microorganisms. These microbes are given carbon but are deprived of nutrients like nitrogen, oxygen, and phosphorus, thus producing PHA from its excess carbon reserves. PHA is biodegradable and is commonly used in the medical industry as well as single-use food packaging.

While bioplastics are often considered to be more sustainable, many studies have found that it might not necessarily be the case. One of the biggest issues with the production of bioplastics is the pollution levels that come from growing the crops, water and pesticide usage, as well as the chemical processing that takes place to turn crops into plastic. Another issue is the amount of land needed to produce crops for bioplastics competes with land needed to grow food. One study also found that bioplastics contributed to more ozone depletion than traditional plastics.

On the contrary, it has been shown that bioplastics’ greenhouse gas emissions are significantly less and traditional plastics over their lifetime. Once the bioplastics have been created there is not a net increase in carbon dioxide because the plants they are made from absorbed equal amounts of CO2 in the growing process.

Currently, the biggest hurdle for bioplastics is their recycling potential. Very few cities have the infrastructure needed to recycle bioplastics and if not discarded properly, they can contaminate batches of traditional recycled plastics. Separate recycling streams are needed to properly recycle bioplastics.  To combat this problem, some companies are using a mixture of bioplastics and recycled plastic so it can be recycled in most curbside programs.

The concept that bioplastics are better for the environment just because it is sourced from a plant can be misleading and can usher consumers into believing that bioplastics can be disposed of in any way. The majority of bioplastics currently produced are ending up in landfills. 

While we love to see the innovation taking place in the field of bioplastics in the hopes to reduce our plastic pollution crisis, its production is currently in its infancy and needs much more sustainable innovation in regards to all aspects of its life cycle. Instead, might we consider globally reducing our overall plastic production and consumption, as well as recycling at far greater rates than the dismal 9% that is currently taking place? 

The plastic pollution issue doesn’t come down to the next great bioplastic innovation, it comes down to humanity taking responsibility for the crisis we have each individually created through our daily choices. Marine and wildlife all over the planet are paying the price for our lack of care and privilege as a species. 

Substantial commitments to improving the plastic pollution problem must come from all citizens of our planet, businesses, and governments collectively to solve this global crisis. Individually, we can vow to reduce our plastic consumption, support sustainable companies that are producing products without plastic packaging, and recycle all recyclable plastics we consume.

Since the first cellular phone was released to the public in 1984, wireless networks have, for the most part, operated on the same radio-frequency bands of electromagnetic waves. As the world of technology advances and more and more people demand additional data, cellular providers are expanding into higher frequencies of millimeter waves. These current technological advances have become a source of electromagnetic pollution, causing numerous questions to arise regarding the effects on human health and nature with the upcoming rollout of 5G technology. 

Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) affect various elements of the environment and 5G technology is up to 40 times stronger than our current 4G technology. The rapid advancement of 5G is occurring, without thorough testing to fully analyze its potential hazards. As a result, many scientists, activists, and communities are questioning its safety. In many cases, this pollution is much stronger than any natural source of electromagnetic field or radiation, and even low levels of EMFs have been classified as potentially carcinogenic.

Numerous recent scientific publications have shown that EMFs affect all living organisms. These effects include increased risk of cancer, genetic damages, structural changes in cells, neurological disorders, changes to the reproductive system, and an overall reduction in well-being. As we already know, everything is connected, therefore humankind is not the only species being affected. Animal and plant life have also been shown to have structural damage from EMFs. It is essential to appropriately determine the nature and related side effects of electromagnetic pollution and its impact on living organisms before it is released on a global scale.

5G technology operates using millimeter waves on frequencies from 30 to 300 gigahertz, which is 10 to 100 times stronger than the radio waves 4G and Wi-Fi networks use today. Radio wavelengths are ordered by centimeters whereas millimeter waves are configured in millimeters. They’re called millimeters because their wavelengths vary between 1 and 10 millimeters, whereas radio waves are measured by centimeters.

The higher frequency of millimeter waves may create for enhanced technology, however, they also require many closely spaced base stations, called small cells. One potential issue is millimeter waves are easily absorbed by foliage and buildings. Does that mean these millimeter waves are also easily absorbed into the human body? The answer is, we simply don’t know. Without proper research, only time will tell. 

One thing is for sure, we simply do not have all of the facts concerning 5G technology. However, we do know this technology drastically increases the intensity of electromagnetic pollution, and will ultimately affect us and our entire planet on some level. We are in the midst of the largest unethical medical experiment in human history. Since we do not know the full extent of health effects that will result from 5G, it becomes an unethical medical experiment because it violates informed consent requirements. Citizens of the world can speak up, unify, and demand a halt to 5G advancement until sufficient, non-biased research has been thoroughly completed. All life on our planet depends upon it.

As we roll through the last quarter of 2019 on our way to the start of a new decade in 2020, I was increasingly curious to know how the last 20 years of human activity has impacted the planet and our environment.  Diving into the rabbit hole of information and discovering disheartening facts on environmental degradation, I decided it was important to have a reference point of previous decades for comparison. The story of our environment has been extremely telling from just 50 years ago in 1970, until now.  Yes, 1970 was almost 50 years ago! From the release of the first plastic Pepsi and Coca-Cola bottles in 1978, to the cell phones and electric cars of the new millennia, the advancement of the human race over the last 50 years has been something for the record books. Unfortunately, not every advancement we have achieved has been positive for the planet. In fact, as you will read, we’re rapidly depleting the natural resources that sustain human life while wreaking havoc on the one and only planet we have to live.  

The 1970s were a decade of new environmental regulations, treaties as well as an increased awareness for the protection of marine and land animals.  No longer were industries able to have a natural resource free for all. 1970 was the year of the first nationwide Earth Day celebration, as well as the creation of The Clean Air Act and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  Everything was moving in a positive direction environmentally with environmentalists prevailing in protecting Everglades National Park and slowing the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline construction, to the signing of The Clean Air Act by Congress on December 31, 1970, setting a 6 year deadline for the automobile industry to develop a 90% pollution free engine. 

Much of the environmental progress that happened early in the 1970 would change when President Nixon fired the Secretary of the Interior Walter Hickel for reportedly being increasingly militant in defense of the environment.  After his departure, regulations were loosened in The Clean Air Act as well as other environmental regulations. The 1970s was a decade of great advancement in producing laws that protect the environment, as well as regulating industries that exploit the environment.  Even as environmental regulations and advancements in technology have increased over the last 50 years, the planet’s current rate of degradation is at an all-time high. This degradation is leading numerous scientists to believe we are well on our way to the 6th mass extinction. Whether you’re a climate change believer or not, these are actual facts and statistics based on the direct impact caused by the manner in which we humans are currently treating our planet and its limited natural resources. 

Global greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) for fossil fuels have more than doubled since 1970 when they were at 8.8 trillion pounds. Twenty years ago, in 2000, global GHG emissions were just over 13 trillion pounds. Current global numbers reached over 22 trillion pounds in 2018.  Just take a few seconds to think about the kind of damage this quantity of greenhouse gas emissions has had and is having on our planet!! After a 2,000 year period of very little sea level change, the last century has shown staggering concerns. Just in the last 50 years coastal sea levels have risen over 5 inches.  Over 3 of those 5 inches have risen since 2000. Sea level rise is caused primarily by two factors related to global warming: the added water from melting ice sheets and glaciers and the expansion of seawater as it warms.  

Ocean surface temperatures have risen over 1.5 degrees since 1970.  The rise in temperatures is believed to be in part from the increase in CO2 levels, as the ocean is currently absorbing over 26% of all CO2 greenhouse gas emissions.  Global temperatures have risen over 1.7 degrees fahrenheit in the last 50 years. In the US our trash generation is becoming a huge detriment to the planet. In 1970 the US produced 242 billion pounds of municipal waste.  The year 2000 brought an increase to 462 billion pounds, and the latest statistics from 2015 showed we produced 540 billion pounds of trash. The increase in trash is a direct representation of our dramatic increase in consumption.  In the last decade consumption of goods and services has risen over 28%.  

The rise in temperatures, sea levels and greenhouse gas emissions is not the only thing on the planet that has been affected.  The World Wildlife Foundation has reported that over 52% of all animals on the planet have become extinct in the last 50 years.  Some animal species have been affected more than others such as marine sea turtles losing over 80% of their total population over the last half century. Statistics show that over one million animal and plant species are currently threatened with extinction.  The loss to biodiversity and damage to the ecosystems that are essential to life is beyond alarming.  

From greenhouse gas emissions to dams and the current fracking craze, human activity has, by far, caused the biggest detriment to our planet, and all of the life that depends on it.  Numerous experts have stated for many years that we’re nearing a tipping point from which we will no longer be able to correct the ongoing damage that will make our planet uninhabitable for humans.  We all want to give our children and grandchildren everything and at almost any expense: excellent education good values and upbringing, life skills, etc.. But, what about gifting them a healthy planet with clean air, water, and healthy soil that will provide food, water and clean air for generations to come?  When will the mindless destruction from man shift into a new era of preservation, sustainability and reconstruction, and the fact that we (all humans) are part of nature and depend on nature for our survival. Only then can we unite to save this beautiful planet we call home.

An article in USA Today reported returning beachgoers on one Florida beach left 13,000 pounds of trash after reopening. After reading this, I came to question, what new choices will we make as a result of the CoronaVirus? Will, we just slip back into our old paradigm of polluting our land and exploiting the magnificent gifts Mother Nature’s blessed us with? Or, will we build a new narrative, one of mindful acts, conscious consumption, and stewardship for our planet? Change is imminent! It is up to each one of us to decide which direction we want to take and how we choose to show up on our planet. 

As the world re-opens, we have the opportunity to use articles like the one in USA Today, as a reference point for the damage humankind can inflict on our planet and all of its inhabitants, and make a conscious decision to choose better. There are so many amazing stories that have come out of the CoronaVirus – stories of our planet rejuvenating, people spreading love and kindness, and communities coming together to support each other. José Andrés and his nonprofit aim to reopen hundreds of restaurants while feeding needy people.

Celebrity Chef José Andrés is using his non-profit to start a program that will feed vulnerable communities across the country and at the same fund the re-opening of hundreds of independent restaurants that have been closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The program promises to pay all costs in preparing 1 million meals at over 400 restaurants throughout the country. 

California animal shelter runs out of adoptable pets amid CoronaVirus outbreak.

In Riverside County California, people sought support from new furry friends, emptying all county adoption centers.

The Himalayas are visible for the first time in 30 years as pollution levels in India drop.

Residents in northern India are reporting that they can see the Himalaya Mountains 125 miles away for the first time in 30 years, due to pollution level drops, from India’s Coronavirus lockdown.

Photographers all across the country are capturing families during Coronavirus “Safer at Home” policies. One photographer stated: “For the few minutes it takes to complete each shoot, spirits are lifted and attention averted, on both sides of the camera.”

It is possible to see, long-lasting positive environmental change after the Coronavirus passes, but it will depend upon which direction humanity chooses to take after lockdown. In the past we have treated our planet in an unsustainable manner. It is essential that we collectively modify our daily habits to align with nature. I just returned from an amazing trip to Ushuaia and Antarctica. We were privileged to take a tour through the pristine Tierra Del Fuego National Park in Ushuaia. We began seeing countless forests with dead standing trees. It was a bit unsightly and sad to see. I’d never seen anything like this before. The guide explained that this is caused by the beavers damming up the rivers and streams, resulting in still water collecting in large areas, over hydrating forests and killing all the trees.

I said, “we don’t have an issue like this in the U.S.” The guide explained that beavers are not native to Argentina, therefore they have no predators causing rapid population growth that is currently out of control and destroying all the forests. Here’s where this really got interesting. I then asked, “how did the beavers get down here if they’re not native?” Apparently, the Argentinian government was trying to create commerce in Ushuaia. In their infinite wisdom, they came up with this brilliant plan to bring 25 pairs of beavers down to Ushuaia from Canada to create a fur trade. Instead, their clever plan literally created a natural disaster. The weather in Ushuaia isn’t nearly as cold as in Canada so the fur on these beavers never fully developed for trade, and now there’s an estimated 100,000 beavers roaming around Ushuaia destroying some of the most beautiful forests in Patagonia.

There is always a price to pay when humanity disturbs the delicate balance of Mother Nature. The CoronaVirus is a perfect example of the feedback we receive when we disrespect nature and other species. Humankind is treating our planet, oceans, forest and animals in an unsustainable manner. It is essential that we collectively modify our habits to align with nature, showing respect for our beautiful planet and all its inhabitants. If not, it is clear that these types of CoronaVirus occurrences will likely continue to intensify and get increasingly more severe until our planet becomes uninhabitable for human life.

How To Cultivate More Gratitude:

• Slow down and take notice. Observe how you are seeing things. Return to breath and create calmness within yourself. From this place it is much easier to recognize and express the things you are grateful for. 

• Write down three things you are grateful for each day. Expand the list as you increase your presence for all the abundance in your life. 

• Start a gratitude journal. Journaling is therapeutic and also gives you an opportunity to look back at where you were mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually during different phases of your life. Make the time to journal how you are feeling now and all the things you love and appreciate during this time of stillness.

• Give a compliment. Share your gratitude for someone or something you love about them. It’s a great time to make those around you feel appreciated and special.

• Come back to center. If you notice yourself creating a negative story about your current situation, come back to breath and begin again. Then work to switch your mindset to see the silver lining in it all.

I woke up this morning thinking of the immense amount of opportunities the CoronaVirus is presenting for all of humankind. There are countless references of how our individual actions as human beings are directly impacting the health and wellbeing of our entire planet. Let me share with you the beautiful synchronicity I received today.

On one hand, this virus started with a single person in China and now has spread throughout the entire planet, affecting us all. This is one of the harshest references in my lifetime, of just how closely connected we all are, and how each of our actions can literally impact the entire planet. Now let’s reference a single candle of light. While participating in a two year Masters Program in Spiritual Psychology I witnessed a candle lighting ceremony which exemplified the powerful impact one person’s light can have on our planet. Imagine hundreds of students each holding a candle with one single candle lit. That single candle lights two other candles, then those two candles light two more and those 4 candles light two other candles, and within a minute the entire room is glowing with hundreds of candles. The beauty to recognize in all of this is that a single candle can illuminate thousands of other candles without diminishing its own light. You too can be that kind of candle.

Each of us has the inner resources and opportunity to cultivate that light! In the book Power vs Force, bestselling author David Hawkins estimated that one person living at a level of Unconditional Love can counterbalance 750,000 others who are not. So there you have it! Each of us holds the power within our daily choices to create a virus, or instead, to bring about positive change for the wellbeing of our entire planet.

Researchers are reporting that human activity is likely causing viruses such as Covid-19. Such activities include; deforestation, urban sprawl and the trafficking of wild animals for consumption – with the end result being the loss of biodiversity. If we are the cause, what is the CoronaVirus here to teach us as a human race? Would its goal be to slow all of us down, to bring awareness to the fragility of life? Maybe it would remind us that no race, gender, sexual preference or religion is excused from infection, and that all humans are equal in the eyes of nature. Whether we view this virus experience through the emotion of fear, or love, there are incredible lessons available for each of us if we choose to see them. From our perspective every experience offers humankind unbounded opportunities for learning, growth and evolvement. Let’s see what this virus has to say.

As I dialogue with the virus, it responds:

Stop and observe! Foremost, return to your breath. Notice your inhale and exhale. Has the suppleness of it changed? Are you mindful of the life source called breath, or your lungs that are so effortlessly supporting you? All of life on our planet depends upon oxygen and engages in some form of breath. As humans, you must learn to appreciate this and the delicate balance of nature, as I can easily alter your life source.

Remember the trees that produce oxygen for you to breathe. Show gratitude to the trees and recognize their part in sustaining your life. Without trees you would cease to exist. Protect the trees! Stop allowing human greed to destroy them. It is the home for millions of species that host viruses like me. As you destroy the forests, you cause these viruses to creep closer into your home where we will end up infiltrating your habitat.

My habitat is in wild animals. I live off of them without causing harm. I want to live, just as you. However, you are clearing habitats that support my host. Besides destroying their habitat, you are rapidly depleting these animals for your consumption and upsetting nature’s delicate balance in countless other ways. Unfortunately, I can’t live inside of you without causing harm. I don’t mean to harm you, but understand, I have no choice for my own survival.

Look around. Have you noticed the pollution, litter and environmental destruction that you are causing on our planet? As you are forced to pause during this virus experience, notice the skies clearing up, waterways cleansing themselves and animals flourishing and reclaiming their lands. Observe your role in the symmetry of life and reflect on how you can live with more consciousness. Protect our planet and ALL its inhabitants. You are not the only species living here. While you may perceive yourself as more powerful than all the other species, this is simply your own illusion. I’m not the first virus of my kind, and I’m not the last. The more you disrupt my environment, and Mother Nature, the more intense and destructive I may become. Be mindful of how you utilize your limited power or you may find yourselves unable to breathe or inhabit planet earth. Remember, humans are not necessary to this planet. Mother Nature, the earth, oceans, and sky will exist and rehabilitate itself long after you are gone. Humans are only temporary guests on this planet so govern yourselves accordingly.

Consume less, protect your natural resources, and shift your mindset to one of conservation and sustainability. Spread Love, Spread Light and show Gratitude. Unite as one with the Planet. From the tiniest microorganism to largest mammal, every living thing is critical throughout the web of life. Honor all life so we can seamlessly coexist.

But, if you don’t live near us in the South Florida area, consider donating your time to a non-profit or community garden in your area. 

If you are short on time, consider a financial donation to a non-profit organization that aligns with your values and objectives. When you give back to these organizations, such as Heal The Planet, the money goes a long way in helping to support the community with free educational programs and workshops.

Thinking you need to be rich to give back is a myth. There are thousands of people that are always contributing, and they are far from being wealthy.

Giving doesn’t have to be rocket science. You just have to start! Once you begin you will see and feel the ripple of abundance and meaning that flows from it.
